A reputed CBSE school in Dwarka, Delhi is looking to hire an experienced Head – Special Educational Needs (SEN) to lead and manage its Special Needs Department.
The role requires a compassionate and experienced special education professional who can foster a nurturing and inclusive environment for students with diverse learning needs and multiple disabilities.
Lead and manage the Special Needs Department, including special educators and learningsupport staff.
Foster a nurturing, inclusive and childcentred environment for students with diverse learning needs and multiple disabilities.
Lead the identification, assessment and periodic review of students requiring additional learning support.
Develop, implement and review Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) based on each student’s academic, behavioural and developmental needs.
Monitor student progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and SEN programmes.
Guide teachers on differentiated instruction, classroom accommodations and inclusive teaching practices.
Provide professional development and training to the academic team and special educators on effective strategies for supporting students with special needs.
Build strong relationships with parents and ensure they remain informed and actively involved in their child’s education and progress.
Coordinate with teachers, counsellors, therapists, parents and external specialists to provide comprehensive student support.
Work closely with senior leadership and the wider school team to align SEN strategies with the school’s objectives, policies and academic framework.
Communicate regularly with school leadership on SEN policies, student progress, departmental requirements and emerging concerns.
Submit detailed reports to school leadership on student outcomes, departmental goals and the effectiveness of SEN programmes.
Manage CBSE examination accommodations, concessions and related documentation.
Stay informed about current trends, research and best practices in special education, and implement relevant improvements within the department.
Ensure compliance with applicable CBSE, Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and other relevant rules and regulations.
Master’s degree in Special Education; or
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Special Education; or
Diploma in Special Education from a recognised institution.
A degree in Psychology would be an advantage.
Valid Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) registration/certification.
Minimum 10 years of experience as a Special Educator.
At least 4–5 years of experience in a leadership or departmental head role.
Prior experience in a CBSE school would be strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of inclusive education and support strategies for students with diverse learning needs and multiple disabilities.
Proven ability to lead and develop special educators while building a consistent, child-centred approach across the department.
Sound judgement in assessing student needs, reviewing interventions and making appropriate support recommendations.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills with parents, teachers, counsellors, therapists and school leadership.
Ability to influence classroom practices by guiding teachers on differentiation, accommodations and inclusive teaching methods.
Compassionate, patient and emotionally mature, with the confidence to manage complex and sensitive student situations.
